It is very simple to setup an eBay auction site and costs you nothing to do so.

What to Sell

The range of items for you to sell on eBay is really only bounded by your imagination, and can include physical merchandise, digital products for download or even inexpensive ebooks. You can make an additional income from these by using them as a means of advertising your affiliate links. You can also sell your own products which you have created, however, I would suggest that you don't get overcomplicated to start with. Firstly, you will need to write out a proper business plan, as it will help you to focus your ideas by getting them down on paper. Here are a few suggestions as to what to include in it.

Research for your Business Plan
    ^
  • ^The first and most obvious thing to do is decide what you are going to sell. Do some brain storming and write down as many ideas as you can. Obviously if you can identify a real need in the market for a product, the more sales that you are likely to generate.

  • ^Once you have some ideas about products to sell then do some research on eBay, which will help you to identify your target market and give you a clearer about the product or products that you want to sell to them. It is imperative that you do this market research in order to make maximum impact on your target market, so don't skimp on this step.

  • ^When you have identified your product and your target market, if you have decided on a physical product to sell you now need to do some research on sourcing the product itself.

  • ^Go back to eBay and spend a couple of weeks looking round for similar items, in order to see what you are up against in terms of price and marketing strategies. This will also give you an idea of important details about your product to include in your advertising that you may not have thought about. Are you going to aim for a relatively low priced item with a quick turnover but a smaller profit margin, or a higher priced item with possibly a lower turnover but bigger profits.

  • ^When working out your starting bid don't forget to include all of your costs, including eBay and Paypal commissions and delivery costs.

  • ^If you are offering a physical product, how are you going to deliver it? Will you keep a stock at home or pass the order on to the wholesaler.

  • ^If you are to deliver the product yourself, work out your means of delivery and associated costs. You will need to know this in order to price your product with a realistic profit margin.

  • ^One of the big advantages of learning how to sell on eBay is that you don't have the costs associated with designing and hosting your own website. Some things to consider when wording your advertisement might be, what are the merits of your product or service and why should somebody want to pay you money for it? Does it offer something unique or is it especially good value? Why should a prospective customer purchase from you and not from a competitor?

  • ^Consider the payment options to put on your site. Paypal is probably the best option, as making a payment is very simple for the purchaser and the payment goes through straightaway. Once you have a Paypal business account it is very simple to setup on eBay.

  • ^Try to obtain a good quality picture of your product to include in your advertisement, as this can really help customers to visualize what it is that you are offering them.
