Fallkniven is a small Scandinavian firm that has been making top-quality blades for almost a quarter of a century. Their products are so well-regarded that they have been purchased and utilized by the King of Sweden. The company is family-operated and gives off the feeling that it is the core of its corporate philosophy. The founders are hunters and fishermen themselves, applying their experience with knife performance in the field to their own development methodology. One can go to Fallkniven's homepage and see the photos of the people who oversee the operation. You're not going to encounter that at a bigger, corporate-run knife manufacturer!Fallkniven asserts they make some of the rugged serially fabricated stainless steel blades in the universe. It seems like a legitimate assertion. They employ solely top-quality steels like 3G, SGPS, and VG-10. This enables them to create blades which are hardened well north of 60 on the Rockwell Hardness scale.Fallkniven Knife ModelsFallkniven manufacturers a handful models that can be broken down into a handful of classifications. Like with many knife-manufacturers, there is some hand waving in the classifications.
    ^
  • ^The Tre Kroner knives are made of 3G powdered, coated steel hardened to 62 on the Rockwell scale. Their primary use is for hunting game. They can be found in a variety of models. TK1, TK2, TK5 and TK6 are fixed-blade knives which include contoured Cocobolo Thermorun handles with a finger protector. TK3 and TK4 are folder blades and can be ordered with an array of exotic handle materials, such as mother-of-pearl and red quince.
  • ^Utility folding knives from Fallkniven are on the compact side, like the U1, U2, and P. All feature drop points. They are intended for versatile, lightweight use, and will come in handy for going hunting or angling. Several kinds of steel are available for these blades, such as VG10, SGPS or powdered 3G. Grip choices include micarta, Cocobolo, and Zytel. There are also a wide array of varying kinds of locking mechanisms.
  • ^Fallkniven supplies blades for hunting and angling, and some of these are the WM, the F1, the H1, and the F2. The former is intended for small-game hunters, but it is great for basic bushcraft use as well. Their most renowned hunting blade is the H1, which doesn't have a finger guard but is full-sized and is intended for larger prey. The blades are made from VG10 steel or powdered 3G steel, and the handles can be either Thermorun or optionally Zytel. Fallkniven's debut product was the F1, a survival blade. The F2 has a long narrow blade, designed for filleting a fish.
  • ^The S1, A1 and A2 blades are all members of the Survival and Bushcraft Knives category. Longer, thicker blades distinguish these models, which are useful in the wilderness. Often, blades from these knives are 1-2 millimeters thicker and at a minimum 30mm more length than the previously discussed knives, and are softer on the Rockwell Hardness scale. Heavy-duty bushwhacking is a fitting task for these models because of these strengths. VG-10 is the metal of choice for these knives. Thermorun is employed to create the handle on the S1 and the handle on the A1/A2 is composed of Zytel.
  • ^Military Knives are the Model G1 and the MC1. The G1 is a compact, convenient model possessing a matte blade, while the MC1 is a big mine-clearance tool. The two are made of VG-10 steel hardened to 59 on the Rockwell Hardness scale. The G1 features a Thermorun handle while the MC1 has a Kraton handle.
  • ^While Fallkniven does not specialize in Chef's Knives, kitchen cutlery can surely be developed using experience gained while designing hunting and fishing blades. The K1 Chef's knife is 8 inches in length, a standard size, and the K2 is a big Santoku knife. VG-10 steel, hardened to 59 on the Rockwell Hardness scale, is employed to create both of them. They have Thermorun handles that rarely slip.
  • ^The Northern Light model from Fallkniven is quite sturdy, as it is meant difficult work outdoors. The blades are made from coated VG-10 59HRC steel, and can be either small (10 cm in length and 5 mm thick) or large (25 cm in length by 7 mm thick). The handles of these blades are composed of aluminum and leather, and they're endowed with a complete bolster and finger guard. As with the smallest of the Northern Light models, the special-edition NL5cx is small, but its steel blade is a Cowry X alloy in a Damascus pattern, measuring 64 HRC.
More InfoFallkniven knives are readily available online, though obviously not every model will be in stock at every vendor. Fallkniven's webpage has some good snippets on the business as well as a full-color buyer's catalog. The Fallkniven message board at KnifeForums.com is an excellent gathering area for knowledgeable Fallkniven devotees.
